Firefight on a Hot Summer Night

Full Eagle Day, and our rookie judges leave the Academy for the last time assigned to duty in Sector 255. After resolving a few issues with their Lawmasters  (Garrick seemingly having forgotten how to operate his and Dave’s suffering a computer malfunction), they set out into the late afternoon traffic at a leisurely 250 kph. It was dark and  a hot muggy night – obviously the weather control guys were having issues. When they reached the turnoff for their new home the bright lights of the city blocks welcomed them, save one block that strangely was completely darkLawmasters.

The barely had time to ponder this, when a vehicle swerved past them at high speed, cut across several lanes of traffic and took an illegal off-ramp with a dangerous squeal of brakes. As they kicked their Lawmasters into high-gear and flicked the sirens on Logan and Vertenberg noticed that the vehicle, a flash sports car’s tail light was out as well. Garrick joined the pursuit, having some difficulty crossing the lanes of traffic, while Drokk and Dave rode serenely on, heading towards the Sector House.

The sportscar car they were following swerved down into a tunnel, the three judges following at high speed. As they neared the end of the tunnel they heard a shrieking of brakes and then the crash of metal on concrete. Emerging from  the tunnel they hit a bank of fog, almost losing control of their bikes on the wet surface. Dismounting they could see the sports car smashed into a concrete pillar, the road ahead was partially blocked by a large truck the driver had obviously swerved to avoid. As the judges moved forward to investigate,  several figures moved out of the fog towards them. A voice suddenly called out in shock and anger “Judges!” and the muggy evening air was suddenly full of lead!

Drawing his Lawgiver, Logan moved forward using the truck for cover while Vertenberg and Garrick also drew their own weapons, aiming at the perps they could see through the fog.  Another hail of lead from the attackers came their way and Garrick called for backup as the judges returned fire. Out on the freeway Dave and Drokk picked up the call and threw their bikes round, heading back the way they had come.

Back at the tunnel the lead was flying wildly, Logan and Vertenberg both taking hits and a couple of perps also being wounded. As he flipped his Lawgiver over to incendiary, Logan spotted two men leaving the crashed sports car and fleeing the scene -  mentally noting a citation was required for leaving the scene of a crash. He fired off the incendiary round failing to notice as it detonated that the vehicle that he was standing near was  in a pool of spilled fuel. With a whoosh the fuel went up, catching Logan in the back-blast. Fortunately, Drokk had arrived and dashing forward dragged his comrade from the flames and began rolling him around on the floor in an attemp to smother the flames. Dave, Garrick and Vertenberg fired off another flurry of rounds, and the wreckers realising they were on a losing cause fled.

As further backup arrived, the rookie judges began clean-up operations.  Logan received further medical attention and the two wounded wreckers were arrested and hauled off in a med-wagon.
