Brainscan - Breakthrough
Runners: Fingers, Barger, Running Wolf, Iceface, Neo, Red
Hammer Special Guest appearance: Metalhed Returning
to Seattle the runners find the city returning to normal after the blackouts
and riots. Most of the troops & Metroplex guards are now off the streets
(except near the Renraku Arcology) and the city has been more or less
returned to whatever passes for normal. Neo gets a call from Monty a
freelance fixer who has a simple job for them. The job involves a simple recovery mission, one person &
one item recover within 24 hrs and the pay is 15k each. Taking
the job the Runners were told to meet a guy called Huggins at a flophouse in
the Barrens. Leaving their wheels at “Bill’s Garage” the Runners walk to the
meet. Huggins is a nervous wreck, shaking like a leaf and exhibiting fairly
obvious withdrawal symptoms (which nobody noticed) He led the Runners off
through the Barrens and Neo, Barger and Fingers attempt
to pump him for info. What they got was pretty garbled but they managed to
get that Huggins was a (former) employee of a research corp called
Neuranalysis, he’d hooked up with Monty to steal some research material from
his employers and the deal had somehow gone sour. He’d stashed the
merchandise in a car park in the
Barrens only to find it caught in the middle of a turf war between two
go-gangs the Red Hot Nukes and the Stilettos. The
Runners arrive at the car park to find the Nukes partying outside
occasionally firing off machine guns and the occasional grenade at the
Stilettos trapped inside. After briefly observing the gangers and identifying
the leader, the Runners decided on the direct approach – Fingers
dropped a stunball on them! Four of the gangers went down instantly except
for the leader who was obviously made of sterner stuff. At least until Neo
shot him, Barger manabolted him, Red Hammer dropped a stun
grenade in front of him and Iceface
shot him in the leg! The
Runners were just congratulating themselves on dealing effectively with the
situation when the rest of the Nukes emerged from round the corner and
started lobbing grenades at them. A
couple of the gangers got some lucky throws in, causing serious damage to Barger,
Running Wolf and Red Hammer, not to mention Huggins who was
severely wounded and then went down in a hail of bullets in the crossfire
that ensued. While Barger lay unconscious and dying, and Running
Wolf regenerated, the remaining Nukes were dispatched in a nasty little
firefight. Red Hammer took herself and Barger off to Seattle
General after Fingers had cast Treat on him, while the remainder of the
Runners entered the garage after a brief discussion with the surviving
Stilettos who fled. Inside the found the body of another Neuranalysis employee but no sign of the item they’d been sent to retrieve. They searched fruitlessly for a while when suddenly a spirit manifested from the corpse telling them if the wanted the item to go to a certain address. The
Runners followed the directions and
found themselves outside an abandoned court house… inside was Brisbie,
a Raven shaman who after playing a few trick on them (as is the way of the
Trickster) eventually traded the SENSE device for a favour from Neo. |
