Tors and Tombs

From Lexicanum

Ambush

The long and winding road was still beckoning them forwards and so they joined a caravan headed in their direction. As they travelled, several of them felt they were being watched but caught little sign of the watcher. After a few days of this, they were mightily surprised to find themselves ambushed, although this proved to be a bad career move for the ambushers as Edrith slew one of them with an awesome blow, causing the rest to run away. The attackers shields bore the sign of a boar. At this point, the bard travelling with the party revealed himself to be a filid, a local lawgiver and said that he must investigate the crime, as it was illegal for the clans to attack travelers on the road.

Tors_mapAt the next town, Leydown, they stopped and the bard sent for the clan leaders for a moot at which all must give evidence. The moot was a bad tempered affair, with the clans getting quite uppity and much shouting taking place. As it drew to a close, a man staggered in badly wounded. Edrith helped to tend him as he reported that he knew what was killing the locals sheep (the main bone of contention between the clans). He then collapsed, without any fbroourther information escaping his lips. The party volunteered to track the lads trail and try to find out what had attacked him, causing such grievous wounds.

They set off, with a local lad as a runner to report their findings since they were all illiterate. After some effort, they tracked him to a ring f blackened stones where any bodies lay, the attackers from the road.

After some more tracking of a set of giant footprints, they found a collapsed and opened tomb, with the way blocked by a giant boulder. They sent the lad to report and sat down to wait for him to return.

They decided to investigate the left hand tunnel, which was not blocked by a huge boulder. As they moved forward, they were attacked by a Broo, which proved to be his misjudgment, from a side passage. Further on, a few more Broo valiantly defended their home against invasion but were swiftly vanquished. Finding that the Broo had several sheep skins, they decided (well, mainly Sigismund) that they had found the cause of the problem and set off back to report.

A Bit of a Broo-ha-ha

This proved tricky, as the filid was busy out of town, mediating, so they settled down in the pub to wait for him. When he finally returned, Eloise eloquently put their case forward that the Broo were to be blamed and so they should now be on their way but was undermined by someone mentioning the giant. The filid asked that they confirm the giants role in this and so, the next morning, they set off back to the cave.

When they got there, with the plan to smoke him out and pepper him with arrows, they were surprised to see the stone had been rolled back from the cave and so Edrith went to investigate, with Sigismund and The Mighty Fred in company. The sharp eyed Edrith noticed a large hulking shape in the cave mouth, moving deeper into the cave, so they shot it. This irritated the Troll, which charged them but was stunned by a couple of awesome strikes from The Mighty Fred  and Edrith and put up little fight.

They returned once more to the pub and gave their addendum report to the filid, ho called the clans together to hear their evidence. Finally convinced, he instructed the clans to pay wergild to those injured in the initial ambush (only Sigismund remembered being hurt) and the party continued on their way.
