Shielwar
Norvaire: (Brian ) an elven fighter and his ward, Andrellea: (Jill ) a
half-elf, cleric of Avanalae arrived in Proudglaive in Roesone. They had left
the Sielwood recently somewhat hastily, due to difficulties with Andrellea’s
advocacy of a human god. After many weeks of travelling, they eventually
arrived in the capital of Roesone and took rooms at the Inn of the Black
Hart. Aware that being an elf in
human lands could be hazardous, Norvaire affected rich dress and a haughty
manner, this coupled with the exoticness of his elven looks and manners caused
the innkeeper to refer to him as “Lord” Norvaire, and word soon spread in
Proudglaive of this visiting elven nobleman and his young ward. The expenses of
the trip had however in reality taken most of their available gold and Norvaire
began seeking a method of funding the extravagant lifestyle he had adopted.
The social scene
in Proudglaive being somewhat provincial the arrival of an elven lord caused
something of a stir among the local aristocracy and soon the invitations began
to roll in. At one party Norvaire was
introduced to a powerful local merchant, Clifton Caldwell. Clifton told
Norvaire that had recently purchased a ruined property in the north of the
country. This property, an abandoned keep, had over the years been used as a
base by local bandits, the local law had been unable or unwilling to assist due
to the remoteness of the area and Clifton was considering recruiting
adventurers. Affecting that it might be an amusing diversion ( and needing the
gold to supplement his meagre cash reserves) Norvaire offered to assist.
In short order,
Tomaasi di Pantera (Ian ) a Khinasi, mage; Paul de Velvenc (Gill) an Ainurean Paladin of Haelyn; Thorick Wyrmbane
(Tara ) a Dwarf, fighter; Fox The Moonrunner
(Keith) an Ainurean Fighter and Putterick Goldfinger (Lesley ) a
Halfling Rogue were recruited to join Norvaire and Andrella.
The party set
off northward next morning and after a couple of uneventful days on the road,
quickly found their way to Clifton’s keep.
Scouting the
area the party quickly ascertained that the keep was indeed occupied,
presumably by the bandits Clifton had spoken off. Deciding a frontal assault
was the best way to deal with the situation, the party attacked, catching the
bandits by surprise. After a short but vicious room-to-room fight the bandits
were vanquished, and the party began to search the area. In the course of this
action, as well as recovering the bandit’s treasure hoard, the party also
discovered that a number of other creatures had taken up residence in other
parts of the keep. They quickly completed the work of clearing these unwelcome
guests out.
Having
successfully completed their mission, the party returned in triumph to
Proudglaive and the reward from Clifton.
Lord Norvaire
using his reward money (accepted reluctantly of course) and his share of the
treasure, began to throw a series of
parties that were quickly to become the social events of the season, even
attracting the attention and attendance of Marlae Roesone the Baroness and her
closest friends and advisors..
